Family Mentoring & Support

Parent Mentoring

Parent mentoring provides assistance for parents and/or prospective parents with enhancing their parenting skills through education, skills building, and reflection. This program connects parents and/pr expectant parents with community resources that address a variety of subjects including housing, financial assistance, and medical needs. This program teaches parents proper safety, behavior management, bonding, and developmental milestones. Using a trauma-informed approach, parents and families will learn about the effects of trauma and how to build resiliency.

It is recommended that participants in this program complete a trauma assessment to evaluate trauma-related symptoms and thought patterns that could affect parenting. Parents and/or expectant parent will complete a parenting assessment that will address risk factors, expectations, level of empathy, alternatives to corporal punishment, family roles, and empowerment of children. This program is individualized based on the parent and the age(s) of the child(ren).

This program uses the evidence-based model, Nurturing Parenting with plans to implement TBRI in July 2022.

Supervised Visitation

Our supervised visitation program will provide specific and direct feedback of parents regarding strengths and areas that need improvement including safety, engagement, sobriety, program compliance, hygiene, stability, bonding, empathy, behavior management, preparedness, sanitation, nutrition, communication, punctuality, engagement with professional services and other necessary skills throughout the visit. We will provide guidance following each visitation including an overview of strengths and continued needs that will enhance future visitations. Supervised visitation can be paired with parent mentoring to enhance success.
